Mountains and Canyons

This file presents some pictures I took recently, all but the first three and the last one from airplanes on our recent trip to Albuquerque.

The first is our own Roxy Ann Peak, poking through the fog in early November. Around to the right and across the Bear Creek Valley is a small fog bank. Still further to the right is the first dusting of snow on Grizzly Peak.

We flew from Medford to Portland on November 26 on our way to Albuquerque. It turned out that the Portland airport was fogged in (we went into the fog wheels down twice, both times pulling up and retracting the wheels). We eventually headed off to Redmond/Bend to refuel. In the meantime, we had some wonderful views of the Oregon and Washington mountains. Here is a shot of Mt. St. Helens with Mt. Ranier poking up just to the left. We then came around a bit to the east, where we see Mt. Adams. Then, around we come again to this view of Mt. St. Helens, and as we go around to the south, a nice shot of Mt. Hood. Once more around to the north where I got this shot of all three Washington mountains, (l to f) St. Helens, Ranier, and Adams. Then we are off to Redmond/Bend, and a close shot of Mt. Hood.

Eventually we got into Portland (two hours late), and because of the fog our outgoing flight was also delayed two hours. We had some clear skies on the way to Phoenix, and passing over Cedar City, UT we had this view of Bryce Canyon National Park. Before long we were approaching the Grand Canyon. What a gash in the ground that apprears to be! As we passed over I took a number of pictures, some of which I note here as one, two, three, four, and five.

Last, here is a shot of the wonderful Mt. Shasta from the rest stop near Weed, CA on our return trip from California last week.

I kind of like some of these shots. Hope you do too.
