AAUW Mystery Book Club retreat at the Sylvia Beach Hotel
Amelia and I joined a few others from the AAUW Mystery Book Club in
a foray to Newport, OR, and a couple of days (September 8-9) at the
Sylvia Beach Hotel. We were in the Emily Dickinson room. The time was
filled with reading, eating, parties, book shopping, and other good times.
On Thursday afternoon, we grabbed hats from the Dr. Suess room, and
gathered on the patio/deck of the Oscar Wilde room. The
AAUW members
among us posed, and then the
hangers-on were
also allowed into the picture. One time, left to right on this one,
Dick and Amelia Franke, Ruben and MaryCatherine Davalos, Mary Ferrari,
Mary Jo Owens, and Jean Conger. Rapt attention is being given here,
but (amazing!)
no one seems to be talking
, but a good time is being had, as it is on the
other side of the deck.
Meanwhile, the sun is making its inexorable trek to the
sea. Can you see the
ship in the picture? Just to the right of the furtherest away part of
the bright spot on the water.
