Fiona's Visit

On July 24 we drove to Redding, CA, where we met Evan, Laura, Ian, and Fiona for lunch at the Olive Garden. I was very pleased with this picture of Evan and Laura. After lunch, Fiona transferred herself and her things to our car and returned to Oregon with us. Maybe that's why Evan and Laura had those big smiles (just joking).

The next morning, Fiona helped make the cinnamon toast for breakfast. Pretty soon after breakfast we were out looking over the "place", and Fiona had the John Deere out ready to do some yard work. We couldn't find the mower for the John Deere, but she kept looking anyway. We finally decided we better get out the Cub Cadet. However, all thoughts of work quickly gave way when the swing came to mind. Grammy even got into the swing of things (just a little). But for Fiona, higher is better, and higher yet is even better than that.

On Tuesday we went to "Ballet in the Park" in Ashland's Lithia Park. On the way from the parking lot to the bandstand, we saw Fiona's car. At the bandstand area, Grammy and Granddad quickly found their places, where Fiona caught us relaxing. Then I got the same kind of shot of Grammy and Fiona. Fiona (and many others) joined in with the ballet twirling and tippy-toeing along. Intermission brought another kind of self-entertainment rolling down the hill. Of course, the second half of the ballet was endured with soiled feet.

On Wednesday, we went to Lake of the Woods. We took the kayak and did a little paddling on the lake (but didn't get a single picture of that!). After lunch, Fiona put in at the swimming and play area while Grammy and our friend MaryKay caught up with each other after having been apart for a few days. After a short break time for a little Grammy fix Fiona was back into the water, throwing a ball and otherwise cooling off.

On Thursday there was a lot of All-Terrain triking (is the deck terrain?). Then we planted a flower garden and made a sign for it so everyone would know it is Fiona's Garden. More tractor riding was in order, then Fiona got this picture of Grammy.

Friday morning we went up to the "mesa" to see the chicory, yarrow, and Fiona. Then Fiona took a picture of Granddad among the chicory and yarrow. In the afternoon we had a ballet presentation, with choreography by Fiona and Grammy. That evening we celebrated Fiona's last day with us by going out to eat Chinese (her great-grandmother would have approved) in the red and white car.

Saturday, July 31, we again met Fiona's family in Redding, for lunch at the Olive Garden. Laura took a final picture of us with Fiona. I reciprocated by taking this one of the reunited family.

Today is very quiet on the Oregon front. Thank you, Fiona, for coming to stay with us for a week.
